TASK 2 / TAYLOR'S COFFEE CUP DESIGN

Brief

Progress

Concept

“Take a sip of coffee to start a new day”

Nature/Floral

The concept of the fingerprint cup design revolves around the idea of personal identity, uniqueness, and connection. The coffee cup symbolises daily routines, warmth, and energy, all essential for academic and personal growth. The fingerprint embedded into the design represents a symbol of enhancing and embracing a person's individuality that Taylor’s encourages. For students, it signifies that everyone has their own distinct path and experiences at Taylor's University. The fusion of fingerprints within a common object—like a coffee cup—suggests that despite these differences, students are united by shared experiences, forming a supportive and diverse community where each person's identity is valued.

Colour choice

Comfortable colour tone that gives a relaxing vibe, maybe green also supporting environmental sustainability.

Or

Red colour expresses the energy to start a new day with striving and working harder. It also refers to the hot drink which is red.

Red - Reminds of climate change, raising awareness of recycled waste, and promoting sustainability.

  • “pls recycle me” in the bottom of the cup

  • “A new era of you starting from recycle me”

  • The phrase "A new era of you starting to recycle me" can symbolize personal transformation through environmental responsibility. It encourages individuals to embrace sustainability by starting with small actions, like recycling. The idea of a "new era" suggests that by recycling, you're not only helping the planet but also becoming a more conscientious and forward-thinking version of yourself. This statement connects individual change with broader environmental impact, motivating people to take charge of their habits for a greener future.

Fig 1.14

The first design features a capital "T" with a fingerprint inside. The "T" stands for Taylor’s University - a place that embraces and accommodates the unique identities of all students. To further emphasize that we encourage and support environmental sustainability, the design also incorporates tree illustration. The tree symbolizes growth and represents how Taylor’s guides students to grow, just like a tree grows with people.

Fig 1.15

The second design features a human silhouette filled with fingerprints. The silhouettes represent different people, symbolizing diversity and individuality. The outer lines of the design depict multiple paths, encouraging the idea that everyone has the freedom to choose their own path in life. People embrace their own unique journeys and make choices that reflect their personal identity.

Fig 1.16

The third design’s fingerprint resembles a swirl, symbolizing that people sometimes feel confused and uncertain. However, in front of the swirl is the Taylor logo, representing guidance and direction. The person in the design is looking forward, symbolizing the belief that with Taylor's support, people can move beyond confusion and move forward toward achieving their dreams.
Fig 1.17

The fingerprint-designed leaf wreath symbolizes individuality and growth for new students at Taylor's University. Each leaf, made from unique fingerprint patterns, represents personal identity, while the wreath signifies unity and collective strength. This design highlights how diverse student journeys come together to form a thriving, supportive community.
Fig 1.18

The fingerprint-filled coffee cup design represents individuality and identity in a unique, relatable way for new students at Taylor's University. Just as every fingerprint is distinct, so is each student's journey and potential at the university. The coffee cup, a symbol of energy, warmth, and daily life, mirrors the academic and personal growth experiences that students will have. This design emphasizes that every student brings their own identity and story to campus,

Message to audience

At Taylor’s , students are full of personality, college life is colorful, and everyone lives their own life according to their own preferences. Our design reflects this individuality and diversity, just as everyone's fingerprints are unique. Taylor's students are not only mature, but also brave to express their unique style and choices. Through this design, we hope to convey a free choice of lifestyle, symbolizing multiple different paths for you to choose. Just as your fingerprints are always with you, our design also hopes to become a part of your life like fingerprints, bringing our blessings to accompany you in every unique moment.

We then decided on the design on Fig 1.18 for our coffee cup.

Reflection

Reflecting on the fingerprint cup design, it’s clear how strongly it resonates with the values of individuality and shared experience that shape student life at Taylor’s University. Each fingerprint represents a personal story, capturing the uniqueness of every student who walks through the university’s doors. Yet, the image of a coffee cup, an everyday item associated with warmth and connection, brings these individual stories together. This design reminds us that while we all come with our own identities and backgrounds, we’re united by our shared ambitions, dreams, and the support we find within our university community. It emphasizes that Taylor’s is not just a place of learning, but a space where diversity is celebrated and where each student’s unique path contributes to a collective journey.
