For this task, we will have to produce a work of design, inspired/influenced by the one we had analysed, or as a reaction to it.

The title can be found in a bubble in my concept artwork, surrounded by a detailed environment with scattered debris, sea life, and plants. Every component has been carefully positioned to maintain visual harmony while avoiding excessive clutter. Overall harmony can be maintained by the purposeful use of asymmetric balance, which is most noticeable in the shape of the bubble. The composition maintains a cohesive unity even with its many constituent parts. By contrasting the beauty of nature with human damage, it encourages reflection on the fragility of life beneath the surface and calls for immediate environmental stewardship. Therefore, the artwork calls for joint efforts towards a future where peace exists and serves as both a visual narrative and a powerful call to action. - 124 words

The artwork would be titled as "A Message in a Bottle", represents the disastrous consequences of ocean contamination. The image, which shows an island and ocean trapped in a bottle full of trash, is an important reminder of how humans affect marine ecosystems. The bottle calls for immediate action by symbolising our containment and separation from environmental destruction. The choice of a bottle as the vessel for containing this scene adds layers of symbolism to the artwork. Bottles are commonly associated with messages and communication, hinting at the urgent need for awareness and action regarding ocean conservation. The artwork urges awareness and responsibility through its striking vision, promoting a revived engagement to ocean protection. As from the sketch, you can tell that the artwork is asymmetrically balanced by just looking at it. -132 words

I knew that I was going to use this sketch as the final design because I like the composition better compared to the other sketches. I had the idea of using the same design principles that can be found from the artists that I've studied before which is asymmetrically balanced, harmony and unity and symbol. The whale which is used as the main symbol of the artwork, will be spraying water upwards hence carrying the title. Below the whale, there will be sea creatures, plants and garbage scattered floating in the ocean. Hence, this where the principle harmony and unity can be found in the artwork. To not make the background too dull, I decided to put the sun to slightly contrast from the blue tones.

FINAL DESIGN :
Within this artwork, I've made a visual narrative aligned with the UNSDG that I’ve chosen which is 'Life Below Water.' Following in the footsteps of other artists, I've centred the piece using the symbol of a whale. Emphasising harmony and unity, I've carefully balanced colours and shapes to maintain a cohesive and visually engaging composition to not make it overly messy. The font selection mirrors the fluidity of the ocean, with bubble-like forms and subtle highlights injecting depth and interest to prevent it from appearing dull or vacant. Presented in a portrait format, the asymmetrical balance adds a dynamic quality, compelling viewers to explore the interplay between its components. Splitting the artwork reveals one side's dominance, underscoring the urgency of the message. In essence, this artwork serves as a poignant call to action, urging contemplation on the importance of marine conservation and our collective responsibility towards life below water. - 150 words
FEEDBACK
- To carefully place the garbage and fishes, so that it doesn't look messy
- Not to add anything on the upper part of the artwork where the title and spraying of water would be present.
- Emailed the lecturer if I need to change anything before finalizing the final design. After a while, they emailed back saying that I didn't have to.
